Compensation is a large part of your professional satisfaction. Our compensation program is designed to support you as you transition careers and build your practice as an Edward Jones Financial Advisor.

We realize that building your business takes time. To help you, we offer a program designed to give you support during your initial training and throughout your first years as a Financial Advisor.

Our Financial Advisor compensation package may include:

Financial Advisor Trainee pay and salary

Financial Advisor Trainees studying for your industry licenses and completing training are paid a salary.

What You Can Expect:

As you study and begin to build your business
While studying for your CPH and LLQP exams and during training, you'll be paid a salary twice a month. As you begin building your professional practice, we provide a salary to help create stable earnings in the early stages of your career.

In the first four years
Your starting salary as a new Financial Advisor is determined by many factors one being your experience prior to joining the firm. During your first four years as a licensed Financial Advisor your salary will steadily decrease as you move towards compensation that is based more on commissions, as your business becomes more established.

Commissions

As you work with clients to identify appropriate solutions for their financial needs, you'll earn commissions. Because you'll have the autonomy to drive your own performance, you're in control of your compensation. We provide a framework for expected performance as you progress through your career, but there are no limits your compensation is directly tied to the effort you put in.

As a licensed Financial Advisor your commission payouts will range from 10% to 30% in your first four years, commission payouts will vary based on certain criteria and tenure and the type of product. We anticipate financial advisors will increase their commission payout approximately every 12-18 months. In year 5, your commission payout will increase to 40%.

New Asset Compensation

You will have the potential to receive compensation on specified new assets gathered through year 5.

1Schedules are based on a previous annual income of $75,000. Earnings do not take into account profit-sharing contribution, CPP or QPP contribution or profitability bonus, if any. Notes on calculations: Net commissions for each Financial Advisor are for the end of each year as a licensed Financial Advisor. For instance, in year 1, Financial Advisor net commissions are from the first 12 months as a licensed Financial Advisor. In year 2, net commissions are from months 13–24 as a licensed Financial Advisor. Salary reflected is annual supplemental salary.

Profitability bonuses

Once you build a sustainable business and transition away from your early forms of compensation a portion of your compensation may be through profitability bonuses, earned and paid by trimester, based on branch and firm profitability.

Travel

Working hard can earn you world travel

Your superior performance is rewarded in many ways, one of which is through trips. Trips are awarded when you succeed in meeting the long-term goals of your clients.

You have an exclusive opportunity to participate in trips or cash award in lieu of trips.

  • Our popular travel program recognizes and rewards Edward Jones Financial Advisors who build strong books of business.
  • When you qualify for these trips to sought-after locations around the world, you'll participate in knowledge-sharing with other Financial Advisors in an atmosphere where you can relax and recharge.
  • In the past 5 years, approximately half of our Financial Advisors in Canada and the United States have qualified for our incentive trips.

Profit Sharing

Your compensation rises with the firm's success

Each year, the firm shares a portion of net profits in the form of a profit-sharing contribution to your retirement account. Contributions are based on your total compensation including direct compensation and bonuses. All contributions are immediately 100% vested.

Partnership Opportunity

In addition to your compensation package, Financial Advisors in the past have had the opportunity to invest in Edward Jones' parent company, The Jones Financial Companies, L.L.L.P., a partnership. Historically, limited partnership offer selection has been based on the minimum requirements of running a profitable and ethical branch. After meeting this basic criterion, other considerations are leadership and your assistance to others in your region and the firm.1

As of December 31, 2017, more than 19,000 Edward Jones associates are limited or general partners.
